We had a wonderful visit to Pleasant Hill. The buildings and land are lovely and well-maintained. Exploring the village gives you the chance to learn about the Shaker lifestyle while experiencing the serenity and beauty that would have been part of their daily life. I enjoyed a quiet walk further up the lane to see the small graveyard. I highly... more

My wife and I have visited Shaker Village numerous times over the years, where we've enjoyed touring the restored village buildings, watching craftspeople at work, hiking some of the property's extensive trails, and staying overnight in one of the village buildings. We've thoroughly enjoyed all our visits and almost always manage to find something we've never discovered before (most recently... more

I think I expected a bit more - some interpreters were wonderful, the site was very well presented, and the Shaker legacy is amazing - food in Trustee's house OK - it seemed there was less care taken with men's costume than with women's - men wearing running shoe was a bit off-putting and one of the interpreters seemed a... more

We made our second visit to Shaker Village last weekend as part of a trip to central Kentucky. We went to the opening day at Keeneland as well as visiting some local bourbon distillaries. I grew up in this area and moved away but there is something about it that draws me back. It was actually quiet this first weekend... more

Unlike some of the more commercialized historic sites that I've been to, Shaker Village has really done a good job of educating people while still trying to respect the vision of what the community was originally intended to be. You can walk around the grounds and trails for free, or for a small fee, you can visit all of the... more

Staying in an original Shaker building (the Stone shop) was the highlight of our 2 week trip to America. Despite the unseasonal snow in April and our inability to set the heater the first night there!, it was a wonderful 2 night stay. It was so atmospheric walking past the lanterns to the Trustees House for dinner in the evenings... more

We just returned from a two night stay at Shaker Village. This was the highlight of our vacation. We had not traveled much in Kentucky, and we were very impressed at how beautiful the area we visited is and rich in history. Shaker Village is beautiful. The 19th century buildings have been restored, and are being well maintained. The tour... more

I have been to Shaker Village several times over the years and recently took my family there in July of 2005. The grounds and buildings are immaculate and beautiful. There are often living history demonstrations in the buildings, which we all enjoyed. The Shaker craft store is pricey, but what gorgeous items they have! It's folk art heaven. If you... more

This is a great experience. You get a feel for how it was like in the bygone days. The rooms are simple but comfortable. There is even a TV (but we do not turn it on). There a lots of good trails for hicking or riding. You can take a riverboat trip or just read. The food is great and... more

Accomodations are austere. If you want to drag your luggage up 3 flights of steep stairs and have no elevator option, then this place is definitely for you. Don't go here if you need internet access, cell phone access, or a simple coke machine. Not recommended for corporate retreats, although they'll tell you they can handle this. Your employees will... more
