This is small in comparison to some museum's that we have visited. They had an impressionist art exhibit that we wanted to see. We only had two hours before closing when we arrived, but this was sufficient time to enjoy the special exhibit and tour the remainder of the museum. Museum offers discounts to seniors, students, which the clerk volunteered... More

Great art museum, with a boffo collection of historic Kentucky material. BUT ... the museum is shutting down this fall FOR THREE YEARS. Yep, it's getting rehabbed, with a new, glassy-trendy addition that apparently will be dedicated to that oxymoron of the art world: contemporary art. See it while you can.

We enjoyed everything about this place! The art was beautiful and the people who worked there were friendly. The museum store was fun to wander through and had a great variety of unique souvenirs available for purchase.

I made a point to visit the Speed Art Museum to see this exhibit. It was worth the drive from Lexington, KY to do so. The paintings were nicely organized and the collection included some lovely pieces from the Impressionists that everyone knows, to some really wonderful art by less famous artists such as La Touche. In the permanent European... More

The Speed is a very well done, well kept art collection. A highlight is Art Sparks, a special interactive area on the lower level for children (best ages infant to 10 years). The collection is very diverse with traveling exhibit options also. There are many special events here - check the website. Of special enjoyment are the Friday Night events... More

The soon to close for remodeling Speed Art Museum is well worth the time for a visit. The Renoir heavy Impressionism show is a broad collection of artists. The museum closes in late April for about one year for remodeling and the building of a new wing. Go if you can, if not but this on your Louisville bucket list.

The visiting exhibit of masterpieces by some of the great impressionist painters was the special treat that drew us back to the Speed Art Museum. We visit a few times each year to study the exhibits of the permanent collection. Always a treat are the Kentucky art and furniture displays. Kentuckiana is very fortunate to have the Speed.

The exhibit at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville Kentucky, Renoir to Chagall: Paris and the Allure of Color, February 3 - May 6, is well worth the $15.00 admission fee. Viewing these works of art is like time travel, taking you to another time and place. Just seeing these beautiful paintings full of light and air makes me feel... More

My husband, my 10 year old daughter and I went to the Speed Art Museum this past Saturday for the first of what i expect will be many future visits. We went primarily to see the French Impressionist Masters exhibit - which we thoroughly enjoyed - but we stayed for hours to enjoy many of the other wonderful offerings. Art... More

Heard great things. Entry fee is a little steep given the size of the museum, but in hindsight, still worth the visit because there were some very enjoyable pieces of work. The collection covers older and modern works. All pieces are very accessible and will remind you of more famous pieces that you have seen in larger city museums.
