Bluebonnet Swamp is a fantastic place to escape the city and enjoy nature. The admission fee is very low. They offer a series of trails which wind through both hardwood forest and the edges of the swamp itself. Unfortunately, one of their longest (and I think nicest) trails has been closed since Hurricane Gustav. I come here often, and have... more

I brought my three year old daughter to trial time at the swamp and can't say enough positives about our experience. Shannon was our trail guide and did an amazing job. She was very knowledgeable. Baton Rougeans live a suburban lifestyle. Living in Baton Rouge my entire life, I was completely surprised to find the wilds of a swamp in the middle of a neighborhood. This isn't a real swamp. It is a boardwalk going around trees in the woods. I have been many times with my school children and camps and I have never seen anything except bugs. The inside is ok, which is the only place you will see snakes, and sometimes baby gators. more
