The Wilson Museum has a friendly and informative staff. The brick building has a very eclectic collection of anthropological, cultural and natural history items. The reconstructed colonial room in the basement and the rock collection were my favorites. It is a little ways out of town and easy to miss...but worth a visit if you are in Castine.

Outstanding collection on cultural development from prehistory to local history. Open May 27-September 30; Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm; Saturday & Sunday, 2-5pm. John Perkins House (historic home with guided tours) and Blacksmith Shop (working smithy); open July & August, Wednesdays & Sundays, 2-5pm.

This is a lovely old museum with a collection ranging from neolithic stone tools to native American bead work and 19th century woodworking tools, many of the things are unlike anything you will see anywhere else, like the African nose picker, all collected by members of the Wilson family. This year's special exhibits are on breadmaking tools and historic cookbooks....
