well maintained! Lovely 6 mile trail that is kept really nice!! I walked it today!
We picked up the trail at the Gardiner end, where there is easy parking. It runs between two towns with lovely, historic downtown shopping districts. So in addition to the river views there are good places to eat and interesting stores to check out before, during and/or after a riverside hike.
This is easily the most popular area trail, both with hikers and bicyclists. It was started in the early 2000s in spite of newspaper opposition from the Kennebec Journal and has remained frequently used, particularly in warmer weather.
