This is a real wild place and we had a great outdoors experience there. This park is offering a wide range of possibilities from hiking to canoeing. We had a lot of fun in the Niagara falls. The trails to the summits are not so easy and are usually long even though the elevation is not high. We hope that... More

This is a beautiful park, with excellent opportunities for hiking and taking photographs, which is what I primarily did on this trip. I stayed at Daicey Pond in one of their cabins and had an excellent view of Mt Katahdin. It was a very peaceful stay and I hope to return!

Most of my time in Maine was spent along coastal beaches and at Acadia State Park before I visited Baxter State Park. Baxter is unlike any other park or preserve I have visited in New England. Getting to the park is an ordeal, driving miles down the Golden Road before turning off to get to the entrance, then driving even... More

We were there mainly to see the fall foliage and we weren't disappointed! Sorry we didn't see any moose or bear but it was still a breath-taking drive. We want to go back and hike when it is just the two of us. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed this place, lots of well marked walk trails from relatively gentle to tough. The Appalachian trail ends here. Three fit members of my party climbed to the top of Baxter Peak on Katahdin , it was a long day and they described it as hard with hours of scrambling over huge boulders. Visitors centre supplies maps and info... More

Use the park website for the park "dos" and don'ts" but don't let the site scare you way from hiking Katahdin but you have to be IN SHAPE for the hike. Get your park maps from the visitor center because the trails are color coded and it is really helpful to know the color scheme. If you're looking for moose... More

We stayed at a cabin at Daicey Pond. You need to bring food, cooking equipment, water, warm clothes, and hiking shoes. Also sleeping bags (or bed linens) and pillows. There is no electricity or running water. Bathrooms are outhouses. The cabins are in a beautiful setting with amazing views.

Almost every year, my wife and I take a pilgrimage to northern Maine to Baxter State Park. Late September (or around the leaf peeping stage) is the best, but late august isnt bad either. Most people when they think of Maine think of the coast, but the interior has a lot to offer, especially taking a tour of the states... More

I went to climb Mt. Katahdin, which was very worthwhile, but also noticed how beautiful some of the lakes were as I drove in. Would definitely recommend for wild, unspoiled scenery, and good hiking opportunities. I was not prepared for the length interrogation by the park rangers, who apparently have nothing better to do than walk through the parking lot... More

My husband and I went to Millinocket specifically to go to Baxter State Park. It did not disappoint. The park is truly “forever wild” as Percy Baxter intended it to be. With that in mind, remember that the trails and roads are unpaved and not well kept. There are very few signs in the park to tell you where you... More
