This summer my wife and I were visiting Portland for the day, and literally bumped into the observatory. We decided to go into it and had a fantastic time. The tour guide, I believe her name was Judy, was friendly and funny and the history extremely interesting. On top we could actually see Mt Washington from one side and incredible... more

The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and really focused his lecture on his audience, relaying how our different origins had something in common with the Portland area. The observatory has an excellent view. We could see from above where it was that we were staying and where all we would be visiting on our tour. Very interesting history to this... more

We enjoyed visiting this old, refurbished incoming ship viewing tower. We were guided by an knowledgable volunteer up flights of stairs to the various levels to see how the tower was built, how it was used, its history and restoration. Too dull for my 4 year old but I found it interesting. The whole experience lasted less than 40 minutes. more

Anyone interested in any aspect of histroy or architecture would enjoy this place. It is an 80 foot tall wood tower built in the early 19th century to signal ship owners that their ship is coming in.
