American history and literature at its best. The simplicity of life back then is amazing.

Longfellow's house is full of original items owned and used by Longfellow and his family. The house is nicely restored. Our guide was knowledgeable and went at just the right pace. An extremely enjoyable tour- highly recommended!

A must see if you are in Portland, Maine. This is where Longfellow grew up and where he wrote many of his poems. House stayed in the Longfellow family until passed on to the Society which maintains it today.

While the house itself was awesome - all the articles in it are original to the family - we had the docent from hell. Judy kept repeatedly telling our group of a half dozen - all 50 + - "Don't touch anything!!! Like we were on a school field trip. One poor woman was roundly chastized for having to leave... More

Very informative; my husband and I thought it a worthwhile visit. Not sure children would enjoy it.

Very informative group tour of a fascinating house. Nice gardens being renovated. Good displays in the museum on Maine history but we felt that more should be made of Longfellow's poetry. The only poem we knew was 'Hiawatha' and were able to look up 'Paul Revere's Ride' on their website but would have liked to have seen more reference to... More

The tour of the Wadsworth-Longfellow house, the childhood home of the poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, was interesting for fans and history buffs. The history focuses more on the family and it's history rather than completely on Henry. Limited to groups of 12 people, the tour takes an hour inside the historic house led by one of the members of the... More

You only go thru on a guided tour. Buy the tickets next door at the visitor center/museum. They have AAA discount on tickets. Tours were given on the hour & half hour & lasted about 1 hr. This is the house where the poet grew up, but also the family house for many in the Wadsworth-Longfellow family. The last surviving... More
