Took the train to Frostburg in order to then ride bikes to top and back to Cumberland. Train got stuck on way up and had to get a rescue pull to Frostburg. A bit pricy for a one way trip but helped cut a lot of elevation. Hal did a good job narrating the scenic trip. The food was a... More

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad trip from Cumberland to Frostburg is nothing short of spectacular. The scenery, the train, the staff - everything was first rate. Several riders even had their bikes on board for a downhill ride back to Cumberland! Fantastic!

It was a fun trip. The play was a little hokey but enjoyable. The food was ok but it was a fun adventure.

Wife's parents live in Cumberland so we decided to try the steam train last year. The train goes up to Frostburg and back. It stops for a couple of hours at the top so you can eat, shop etc. We saw a car full of bicycles on our first trip. Found out you ride the train to the top and... More

This was a fun experience while on a couples vacation at Rocky Gap. The train is impressive and the route was beautiful from Cumberland to Frostburg. The train cars were disappointing, most reminded me of regular 90's commuter train cars. Overall, this was a fun trip but we won't be doing it more than a times a year, likely Spring,... More

Murder mystery train ride was way overpriced. Dinner food was bad. No table cloths. Coffee in styrofoam cups. Badly appointed train car. No table service for alcohol. Long line at the bar. Shrill, uninteresting mystery. We expect alot better for $85 per person. Recomend this be avoided.

The WMSR is a tourist attraction drawing heavily from the Baltimore/DC area during peak seasons like October. They often substitute diesel engines for the lone steam engine. I guess it's not easy keeping a steam engine going when you've got to haul three or four hundred people up 3% grades. If you're a rail buff then the WMSR may not... More

My husband & I were on the Oct 29 train for 11:30 a.m. Of course it was snowing this morning and very cold. This was our first time. The customer service was friendly upon getting our tickets. The bathroom was clean. The adult gift shop needed more variety in the T-shirts. The kids gift shop was bigger. Thre was a... More

Bought tickets on line. Arrived early, free parking. The depot has a deli, clean bathrooms, handicap accessibility, but a cheesy gift shop not worth manning. A few tables and chairs. The train arriving into the station was quite a site! The rest seemed very unprofessional. A woman in jeans and a sweat shirt yelled at some man to get his... More

My wife, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law and I all had reserved tickets for the dining car ($55) on the 3:30PM train. When we were picking up the tickets, about 30 mins. before the train pulled out, we saw a sign in the ticket booth that said . . . for $175 one could ride up in the engine for a... More
