Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were very excited about this tour. However, it did not meet expectations especially when they doubled the price without adding value. We had attended before in Oak Bluffs for $10. Also, we were told we were going to visit 9 locations and we only went to 5. Next, both presenters argued with each other about the facts or the ghost stories. This made it less credible....and disappointing. The Female presenter did not seem to have a good grasp on the stories and struggled to deliver. If you are a true believer and a paranormal fan, then this tour may not be for you. It is not in depth enough for the value paid. However, If you just want to walk around town and experience some local lore and history, then this may be a fun night for the family.

What a waste of 10 dollar. The guides did not know how to follow thru their stories. They seem like they were not confident. They wanted to charge us for a 2 year old child who thank god wouldn't understand the mess these guys were saying. The were more interested in telling us to speak to all sorts of pp on the island to confirm their stories than just tell the story!! I didn't want to hear about her boyfriend I didn't want to hear the guides arguing. Just horrible!

Our family had a fun night on this tour. I recommend it for anyone looking to learn a few things about the island, and local ghosts too. It was only $10 per person and lasted between 1.5-2 hours. I would have liked a couple more stories, but it was still the best value tour on the MV.

This type of thing is right up my alley!! I have read many books on the paranormal of the Vineyard and Cape Cod so I could not wait to go. It was very historical and very informative. But, I expected more scare-factor. I'm not talking about making stuff up, just to make it scary but, actual "spirited" tales. If there are small children I can certainly understand a toned down version, but may I make a suggestion...How about a grown-up version of factual tales...just a suggestion!!

My family and I recently went on the Edgartown ghost walking tour. The good news: it only cost 10 bucks. The bad news: it's not very good.

Now, I have zero belief in ghosts, and am 100% skeptical about all things paranormal. 100% means that I think all of this stuff is complete nonsense. But I am one of those people who, while he may not believe in ghosts, sort of wishes there were, because that would be really cool! So I was more than willing to give this tour a chance to give me some mid-summer entertainment.

Unfortunately, while the two tour guides--a man and a woman--seemed well-intentioned, they really weren't very good storytellers. The pacing of the tour was uneven, and there really weren't enough stories that sounded remotely plausible, let alone actually hair-raising.

By her own admission, the female tour guide was skeptical of ghosts when she began doing the stores four years ago. That made me wonder: why the heck would you start a ghost tour business when you don't even really believe in the stuff?! Doing so seems extremely cynical, at best. And at worst, completely unethical. Regardless, she says that she now is a believer, based on the stories she's since heard. Whatever.

One silly story involved the apparition of a recently deceased woman in the choir loft of an old church in full view of the people down below. Oh yeah, and then she vanished into thin air. Then there's the former editor of the Vineyard Gazette who disintegrated like a Star Trek character being teleported. (That was the actual comparison one of the tour guides made.) I believe his dog was involved, as well.

But the pièce de résistance involved the famous fashionista Donna Karan, who allegedly was visited in her room at the stately Victorian Inn by not one, not two, not three, not four, but five, yes, five ghostly fishermen!! Oh yeah, and some old spirit who reached out and touched her boobies, making for a grand total of six specters in one impossible-to-believe-unless-you-have-suffered-a-head-injury-or-were-raised-in-a-prescientific-tribe-that-has-never-learned-what-critical-thinking-is anecdote. Pass on this one.

The 2 tour guides were very nice a woman and a gentleman. His story telling was much better, a bit tighter while she tended to run on a bit and tread away from the meat and potatoes of her story. They were funny however. They took us inside the closed Gazette offices in the dark as well as a church which added to the atmosphere of the stories. Great chance to see the town in a different way, and learn some local folklore. If you like ghosts and such, this is definitely worth your time.

We had a wonderful experience on the tour and learned a lot of interesting tidbits about the history of Martha's Vineyard beyond the Ghost Stories and Scandalous tales. Our guide was a very friendly lady and our group, three adults and a seven year old child, had a good time. It is much more compelling for those of us who are older, but that is also why children are free! At 1 hour 10 minutes it is not a significant time investment and I would definitely recommend for the future. We learned the answer to random questions such as "Who is Martha of Martha's Vineyard" and "why do many of the houses have white wood siding AND wood shingles". Overall , a lot of fun!

The tour given by 2 MV Gazette employees is informative and interesting but they need to tighten up their narrative as it's a bit too long and repetitive. It seems they're trying to convince their listeners to believe in ghosts rather than just telling their stories.

Not well organized and the stories well not well delivered.

Groups are composed of 50/50 kids and adults. Time needs to be given to develop well practiced stories and "urban legends" that can appeal to both.
Even the most famous "daggett house child in fireplace " ghost story was not told properly (at least the way we were told by the daggett inn many years ago).

I want to be supportive of this great idea, and hope they will succeed with some more practice and better stories.
