I have visited Beauport several times, taking tours during the day and also the special evening tour, where the museum is lit using the room lamps, showing off the wonderful pierced tin lampshades and giving a totally different experience of the rooms. Each room is as unique as the home's designer and the docents do a great job of describing... More

I visted this museaum with my teenage daughter. We were mesmerized by the story of the owner of this eclectic and whimsical house. With no architectural training, Mr. Davis Sleeper designed and built this most wonderful and exciting home. What fun it would have been to be a guest of his. The gardens are well arranged and offer lovely, secluded... More

Beauport (the man) was an interesting character, and the tour guides here don't sugarcoat him. That's a big plus. The house is fascinating -- a recycling project begun when the first-ever American homes were being rebuilt. Beauport salvaged what he loved and made it his own. There is a bedroom that, when you're standing in it, appears to overhang the... More

The Beaport-Sleeper McCann House is an amazing property, and there's no wonder why it graces the cover of the book Great Houses of New England. It is one of those properties you can visit again and again and always find something new. Every room in this Sleeper-designed home is set to a different era or decorating theme, and sometimes you... If you enjoy visiting historic homes, you will enjoy your visit. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The house itself was interesting, Every room in the house had a different theme and story behind it.

This house is hard to describe. If you think of it as a decorator's show-house from the turn of the last century, you'll have a good idea of what to expect. Every room is a gem. Take the guided tour: it's worth it. (In fact, I don't think you can see the house without going on a tour.) Our tour... More

This attractive, but not overly impressive house located on the ocean front in Gloucester, Mass. is worth visiting because of the eclectic and unique interior designs housed within - not your run of the mill stately home this. Henry Sleeper, the original owner and designer, was quite a character. The home had only one other owner, who chose to keep... More

During my most recent visit to Gloucester, me and my husband went to visit Beauport, it was an amazing afternoon. I felt like a Mr. Sleeper's guest indulging in every single detail of the mansion. Our tour guide was very pleasant. We are very glad we went.

If you are a fan of interior design, history, culture, architecture, glass, pottery, china, you will love it!! The one hour guided tour was fascinating and informative! We've lived in Northeastern Mass for more than 20 years, are big art & architecture nuts, yet only just visited Beauport. This place is sooo beautiful and uniquely (sometimes eccentrically) decorated by the very talented Mr. Sleeper. Not to mention it has lovely views of the harbor. Our tour guide was excellent. Afterwards, if you're female and like reasonably-priced funky... More
