This is a lovely, albeit small, museum in the heart of downtown Gloucester. It celebrates Gloucester's maritime history and has wonderful exhibits depicting the most courageous and meaningful events in Gloucester's long fishing tradition. Fitz Henry Lane is Gloucester's most recognized artist and many of his works are housed here. Gloucester has natural lighting, granite formations and a working harbor... More

Textiles, artifacts, scale models & history complement the wonderful art. Cape Ann inspired so many well-known painters, and many of the works are on display (lots of maritime art). There are regular special lectures, exhibits & workshops, as well as a cool children's area in the lower level. There's also a nice little gift shop.

Truly a gem, the Museum does not advertise much and is a bit closed off from the community it honors. However, it is a lovely museum with a rich trove of treasures from Gloucester's past. One can't help but notice that Gloucester gone by was a much livlier community than it's current sleepy state would indicate. Still, it is and... More

The Cape Ann museum is a cute little museum which has some great pieces. However, its quite small and you shouldn't except to spend more than an hour here during your visit.

This museum is a real gem with all of the art done either by Cape Ann artists or of Cape Ann. They have a marvelous collection of Winslow Homer's work and regularly bring in new exhibits. They have a wonderful collection of materials and artifacts from the ship captains and early fishermen, reflecting their influence on Gloucester's history. I have... More

What a find this place is. Everywhere you turn there is some wonderful work of art. The price of admission is a bargain. You will enjoy the exhibits on the history of the Gloucester area. They have the only extant British redcoat in the US. Great place to spend a few hours.
