Take the time to stroll the bay and stop by the Fisherman's Memorial. This is a fantastic educational tool for the kids. It is remarkable to read the list of names of Mariners and their families who gave their all.
Touristy, but have to see it if in the area. Can't miss it as you come into Gloucester along the water. A monument to all the fishermen in the area - and everywhere for that matter.
This memorial is dedicated to the thousands of fishermen who have lost their lives at sea. Also be sure to visit the Fishermen's Wives' Memorial just a short distance away. The boulevard faces the large harbor and offers a great place for picture taking.
If only the city could take some interest in what it promotes. The entire place is a goldmine waiting to explode.
The monument sits in the middle of a wonderful boulevard that gives you an unequalled view of the harbor. Gloucester was once North America's premier fishing port, and the monument recognizes the fishermen who went to sea on the sailing vessels of old. There is also a record of all of theousands of fishermen who lost there life at sea...

For anyone who's watched a seafaring movie, this is a statue worth seeing. It makes you feel humble to think of man's attempts to conquer the ocean.
The Fisherman's Memorial was erected in bronze in 1925. Standing eight feet tall and staring out to sea, the memorial is a fitting remembrance of Gloucester fishermen who have been lost at sea over the course of the last 385 years or so. The setting is stunning and the bronze plaques with names of those lost is poignant, reminding visitors...
