Butternut is a great little southern new england ski area, very clean, nice looking, family friendly. But the skiing is really boring. It has trails marked green, blue and black, but they're all pretty much the same. For a real skiing mountain, try nearby Catamount. Or go north to Jiminy, the best ski area in MA.

None of the ski areas in this area is that great. Drive a little further and go to Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA or better yet, Stratton is just over the border in VT

after a bad experience at another mountian, we tried Butternut. What a great experience we had. the set up was awesome. there are about 5 different bunny trails for the kids, 4 majic carpet lifts and one regular beginner lift. My 15 year old neice was with us for her firs ski experience and we were 10 minutes early for... More

I visited Butternut from the UK with my son (11) for him to learn to ski and to visit my brother and his family who live nearby. We were concerned, as very unusually, they hadn't had any where near as much snow as usual and as it was my sons February Half Term we had booked our Christmas "learn to... More

Our family is made up of skiers and snowboarders of all different abilities, and we were all able to have a terrific time at Ski Butternut. Even though we have had a ridiculously mild winter this year, Ski Butternut was fully open (even the tubing hill!) with man-made snow as good as it gets. One person in our party had... More

My husband and I, with another couple, drove up to Great Barrington, Mass's Butternut Mountain for a day of beginner skiing during a winter in which we've had little to no snow! We didn't know what to expect seeing as there was no snow on the ground, but their website said they had all trails open. We gave it a... More

Butternut might be a nice ski destination, but it was a disaster during this past President's Day weekend -- starting with running out of rental equipment (many boot size unavailable, ski sizes unavailable). We go this weekend every year to different places in the Northeast (Catskills, Poconos, etc.) and this is the first time I've ever found a place so... More
