The paintings of Timothy Orikri bring light into darkness in his current exhibit at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. One just has to walk in the room to feel the energy generated by his brilliant use of color and form. I've been to this museum several times as a parent and as a teacher with a school group. It's very nicely done! I highly reccommend the guided tour! It takes you through history... life in Africa, slavery, getting a job at the auto plant in Detroit, etc. It was awesome! Most appropriate for 10 years and up. more

Our visit was an amazing experience. The architecture of the building is beautiful and inspiring. We enjoyed the Negro Baseball League exhibit. The layout of the permenant exhibit uses multiple media to give the visitor unique insight to the sufferings and sucesses of African-American people. The Slave Fort and Middle Passage rooms do tend to bring on an emotional response.... more

As a text for reviewing African American History the museum offers something that text books can't it offers the hands on experiance of seeing the trials and tribulations of the African American people. For someone who is interested in this experiance or the study of African American history this Museum is an excellent text at an affordable price. more
