Eastern Market, the largest historic public market district in the US, is open every Saturday from 5am to 5pm. More than 150 farmers and vendors from Michigan, Ohio, and Canada offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, jams, cheeses, spices, herbs, plants and flowers. Flower Day in May is one of my favorite times to go to the market.... more

Although it's supposed to open on weekdays, we went twice and it was closed... go on a Saturday or Sunday! more

Eastern Market sprawls for several blocks in Downtown Detroit- it is big, chaotic and confusing to navigate, but very, very fun and excellent for bargains on live plants, produce and wholesale meats. It opens at 6am on SATURDAYS ONLY and features local Michigan farmers selling their goods in an open-air environment at bargain prices. Perfect for cutting out the middle-man... more

Eastern Market is a great way to spend an early Saturday morning in late summer or early fall when all the fruits & veggies are ripe. The open-air market is abundant with fresh produce brought in from farms across the state. The farmers are usually open to dealing with customers to provide the best deal. Eastern Market shopping is a Detroit experience, especially in the warm weather months. The open air sheds provide a variety of things to buy ranging from chicks and ducklings to exotic flowers and foreign spice packets and fresh vegetables.
