A copper miners daughter, it was fascinating going through the mine and learning about the copper industry, how deep they mined, how dangerous it was, and getting to ride in the cars the miners used to go to work in. It gave me a great appreciation for the hard and dirty worker my dad, along with many of my friend's... More

I grew up in the area and my dad was a copper miner, so I would recommend this stop to anyone.

The trip down into the mine is quite interesting. Also quite cold. They do provide jackets which are really needed. And the mine hoist building and the shaft building also have a lot of interesting features. My wife and I really enjoyed the whole process.

This tour is a must for any history lover! Take the full tour and grab a miners coat and hat and gear up for the ride down in to the old mine.... it's an awesome experience for children and adults alike. The ride in the rail car is great fun, I suggest sitting as far in the back as possible... More

This was one of the highlights of our 10 day tour of the UP along Superior. The tour is great if you have any interest in industrial history, engineering, etc. And one of the best unadvertised parts is the grounds. You can walk around on your own visiting the ruins of the old buildings. A photographers dream if you like... More

The Upper Peninsula offers many mine tours but this is probably one of the best. Not only do you get to tour one of the oldest and deepest mines in America, you get get a really cool cog wheel train ride as well. The mine is easy to find, with a large sign off US 41, and located just north... More

We went here as we'd run out of attractions to visit near Houghton, and it was a lot more interesting that I thought it would be. You get a above-ground tour of the giant hoist room and then a tram takes you down to the actual mine, where it's a chilly 47 degrees. You can feel the cold air rushing... More

We visited the mine while vacationing the Keewenau Peninsula. After learning about the copper mining history in the area it was fun to see an actual mine. It takes about 2 hours to make your way through. You see the hoist, take a tram ride down to the mine, then go in to the mine. They provide hard hats and... More

If you are in the Houghton/Hancock area, make a point to see the Quincy Mine. Because a lot of it is indoors, many people do this on rainy days when they are vacationing in the area. There is a mine tour, museums, the shaft house, and one of the largest steam powered mine motors in the world. The only caution... More
