Lansing is small town where there are not much you can do out. This place is nice and must to visit.
no way I would waste my time. Its in a bad area, homeless people wonder around if there isn't a rally occurring. you have to pay to park, don't go to see the Christmas tree unless its at night. they make a big deal about bringing in this tree and it always looks a wreck. if you go at night-stay... Spouse, adult son, and I came here as son, who has visited most state capitals, and their capitols, wanted his parents to see a most interesting building he had visited before. We did a self-guided tour with the aid of a booklet, but guided tours are available. Free. Interior space is interesting for what it says about upper mid-western taste... More
The Michigan state capitol building is beautiful and worthy of a visit. The architecture and colors are beautiful. We enjoy visiting statehouses, and we find that a guided tour is the best way to get the most out of a visit -- much better than a self-guided tour. We planned carefully to be in Lansing during tour hours and to... More
The architecture was worth the trip. The tour guides were informative and you were also able to self tour if short on time. Well worth the history. You could also tour the surrounding area afterwards for lunch or snacks.
This structure will bring you to your knees. The architecture is something different from classical capitol buildings. There are beautiful reliefs, arches, columns, and designs which provoke you to take 200 photos in a few minutes. Absolutely stunning at night when all lit up. Also a beautiful Christmas tree is lit in an annual celebration called "Silver Bells", making the... More
The building is beautiful BUT beware that tour guides are not always available even during posted hours. It was nice to freely walk the building but a little background info would have helped. They do however provide nice books free of charge for the self guided tours. Also, staff there were fairly friendly. Don't forget to check out the front... More
The Capitol building is beautiful. One of the few things I wanted to photograph. It is right downtown and we got to it with no problem, even on a Satuday afternoon. Travel is probably a little different during the week or when MSU is in session though.
The building is just fantastic. The architecture is fabulous and the information shared by the tourguides is very interesting. From finding the fossils in the marble flooring to the great paintings surrounding the dome - it is all very interesting. A true Michigan treasure. A must stop for everyone!
The Capitol bldg is beautiful and historical. Taking a formal tour is the best way to get the history of the building and of Michigan. Contacting a senator or representative might also lead to a tour of their offices. Definitely worth the time if you are in the Lansing area.
