The guides who work here do a great job of making history relatable (as reenactors ) without going over the top. There is an almost non-stop list of events on summer days that help give you a good idea of what life was like at the fort in half a day or less. We visited here in the morning and... more

We thought this was pretty good. Happened to catch a week when there was a group set up with an authentic campsite who also did demonstrations like a rifle/musket reliability inspection. Kids (ages 6 and 11) both enjoyed it. more

My Mom and I visited Colonial Michilimackinac in July '08. She's a somewhat of a history buff so I thought I would tag along to keep her company; not really knowing much about the place. You start off by watching a short video on the history, to familiarize yourself before actually going to the fort. After the video, you walk... more

My family went here on July 10th, 2008, and my young daughters loved every bit of it, especially exploring all the buildings and watchtowers. There is a set schedule of events that they follow every day, and the actors/guides were a bit late on some things. In particular, I wanted my daughters to be able to interact with the Children's... more

The fort is great all by itself, but if you're in town on Memorial Day weekend make sure you check out the reenactment. They have costumed reenactors every day, but that weekend most of the town gets decked out to reenact the seige of the fort during Pontiact's Rebellion. It's free, which is wonderful, (though they ask for donations, which... more

Open May-October. $10/person. Small fort with very good gun and cannon demonstrations. The exhibits are well done inside the buildings. Costumed interpreters. Active, archeological digs on the grounds. Very friendly atmosphere, enjoy taking your questions, especially Mr. Jones, who attends Lake Superior State University. You can walk around the entire fort from the top wall walk. With the demostrations, allot... more

This place is packed with history. You start your tour with a video, then the re-enactment, then a nice tour and then you can walk around and explore all the houses. The whole fort is not too big but we spent a good half a day in there. Very educational and full of history. Very knowledgeable staff. A must see... more

I was suprised at how much history there was to see at the forts. The fort in the city is a recreated for where they are currently digging up artififacts and rebuilding the fort as it once was. The fort on the island are original buildings with lots of information and history. They now even have a computer on site... more

They don't leave you asking for more when you visit Fort Michilimackinac! Your tour starts with a 13 minute video of the history of the fort--all with costumed re-enactments. Your walk to the pallisades of the fort take you right along the shore of Lake Michigan right next to the Mackinac Bridge (the entrance to the fort and the gift... more

Archeology and reconstruction began at Michilimackinac in 1959 and continues today. They have a large friendly, knowledgeable staff. They are in costume and play music, cook, fire the guns, etc. The archeologists will stop and tell you what they are doing and show you recent finds. And the exhibits are great. The setting, on the Straits of Mackinac at the... more
