I visited this World Heritage site twice, once in January and once in June of 2011. I loved the serenity of the place and its history. At the second visit I noticed that a lot of "upgrades" were in progress such as improved footpaths etc. Well worth the (small) entrance fee.
be sure and visit the monasteries built by other countries to the side of the World Heritage birthplace of Buddha site. China, Vietnam and especially Germany have magnificent temples to visit - at NO COST!!
