It's pretty amazing to me that a mid-sized city could have a museum that you could literally spend days in without seeing everything. When we first moved here, we were told, "The MIA has just one of everything", and that's sort of true for the European 19th-century and earlier, but it also has an Asian collection that rivals any in... The Minneapolis Institute of Art is free to the public and is close to downtown, so you can take in some culture, and then hit some of Minneapolis's best bars and restaurants. Don't forget to visit the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program gallery in the Target wing. A great opportunity for local artists, the MAEP gallery shows some of the best... More

In spite of being in the Midwest, the MIA is a world-class museum with something to offer for everyone of any age. According to its website, its "permanent collection has grown from 800 works of art (in 1883) to more than 83,000 objects (today). The collection includes world-famous works that embody the highest levels of artistic achievement, spanning 5,000 years... More

This is the best museum ever...Beautiful building. Beautiful lighting everywhere... Art everywhere. Degas, Van Gogh, Sargent, Renoir, Morisot, Eakins, Bouguereau and Payne...just to name a few of the artists. And they had one neat room with a bunch of old masterpieces and then a huge Kehinde Wiley painting mixed in. It was fantastic to see the old and the new.... More

Always a spiritual and artistic awakening for philistines like myself. New and old buildings compliment each other and I never tire of existing and ongoing rooms.

Calder, Van Gogh, Renoir, and some of the finest work of the ancients I've ever seen. Our visit was an unexpected delight. Extraordinary vignettes of artistic periods. Exceptional mideast collection. Top notch art museum.

I like art and often visit museums. What a pleasure it is when a museum makes my visit easy and does so much to make me feel welcome. While there is an initial challenge in finding the MIA from the interstate, once you arrive an adjacent parking garage is enclosed and free. The museum, also free except for a few... More

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is a treasure that must not be missed. Spend a few hours or a few days. Every April they have an event called "Art in Bloom" where local florists create and display floral arrangements that are specifically designed with a piece of artwork in mind. The floral displays can be found all over the museum... More

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) is one of the top-notch art museums in the United States. I feel safe putting the MIA in the same league as the MET in New York City and Chicago Institute of Arts. The span of art/artifacts/architecture spans the history of human civilization. This museum has rotating exhibits, special events/lectures, a vast permanent collection,... More
