This is a great attraction. Very informative of a bygone era. Being able to go down miles into the earth in an old mining elevator that used to take to miners to work is so cool. riding into to mine and seeing how it used to be done makes you really respect these men and how hard they worked. I... More

Being an engineer, I was naturally attracted to this park. I was looking forward to the underground tour, but a recent fire has put that out of commission for the next few months at least. Still, the above-ground tour was informative and interesting. While the underground tour is unavailable, they are not charging for the above-ground tour. Be sure to... More

We drove in on a lark but unfortunately the underground tour was closed for 2011 for repairs. The surface tour (which was given by a masters history student) was great, especially if you like machines/technology and seeing the evolution of mining over time.

We took our young kids (3, 6, 8) to the Soudan mines this summer. Everyone had a blast. It was a great learning experience for the kids and the whole family enjoyed the scenic views, touring the old mining buildings and going underground for the mine tour. We got to see how the miners worked many years ago and the... More

We visited the Soudan Underground Mine State Park on Sun., Sep. 28, 2008. We were introduced to our guide and donned hard hats for a fast elevator trip 2400 feet into the earth. We then boarded a narrow guage train for a trip through the underground tunnels, with stops for the guide to explain the mining process. Our guide was... More

I have been to the Soudan Underground Mine twice in one year. It is absolutly amazing. The tour is fairly cheap and it is about an hour and a half. You will see how the miners worked and the working conditions. It is without a doubt an unforgetable experience!

This state park (park admission fis free) is the site of two interesting attractions. First, it is the site of the oldest iron ore mine in the state. One can go down an interesting 1/2 mile elevator ride to the deepest level of the mine and take a tour. I didn't expect to learn much from the tour, having been... More
