DO no miss enjoying the surf at El Elio break (I'd say it is a point break considering it is a dominant left wave).

Good waves, but the sand is dirty and the water has rocks in it so it's not great for swimming or relaxing really. Unless you're into surfing, you'll be underwhelmed.
I loved Huanchaco! I collected awesome rocks and shells, and even learned to paddle a caballo de tortora (boat) all by myself for only 8 soles! It was an absolutlely beautiful beach! I did not surf but it was really cool to watch all of the surfers. I also loved taking pictures of everything here! Bring toilet paper and soap/hand...

Huanchaco beach, yeah there are surfers in the water and others, but they really need to smell the water. The sewage from Huanchaco isn't piped far enough out into the ocean and comes back to the beach.

Great, long beach! Tons of rocks though so its hard to swim in! and also lots of sea urchins so watch your step!

The food at the Huanchaco Beach is consistently excellent. I have not had one thing from the menu I have not liked. The staff ar cheerful and friendly even when the restaurant is really busy. Pescado a la Macho (I think) is my favourite!

great fishing village, small pier. Went to a lovely fish restaurant they cooked it on a grill out the front. Not far from Trujillo, can get bus but local one went all around the houses. Plenty of Taxis.
I recently lived in Huanchaco as a volunteer for five months. It is an absolutely amazing place. The beach is quiet and serene (and cold!) except in December through March, when it is crowded on weekends and warm. Lots of great little experiences nearby, music, food, etc.
Locals are very friendly, and the reason I post this caution. They are...
