This beautiful station was first opened in 1914. It was declared to be the "gateway to the west" by President Woodrow Wilson. Union Station saw its peak in 1917 when more than 79,000 trains passed through. Also, it is estimated that half of all GI's deployed in World War II passed through this station. Union Station has been renovated and is really beautiful. Looks much like Grand Central Station in NYC but on a smaller scale. The Station offers lots to do with kids. Free parking on the weekends, easy to find, easy to park, can be seen in 30-60 minutes. Bring your camera as there are many photo ops. Wear comfy shoes. more

Union Station is situated in downtown KC and is a definate must see if you have the time. We stop by there every time we are in town because there is usually something new to see. They host traveling exibits, the planetarium, and Science City and other things to see are located there too. They also have a nice little... more

We were in Kansas City in March 2008 looking for ways to keep our youngsters entertained. Decided to visit Union Station. Lined up for tickets to Science City. This can only be purchased in combination with other attractions. Prices included "One Way Ticket" for either the Planetarium for $5.95 or the Regier Extreme Screen for $5.95. Spend the whole day here! There is so much to see, and do. You can see an exhibit (we saw "bodies revealed,") see a movie on the extreme scene (we saw "the human body,") play at science city, you will have fun! To finish the day eat at Pierpoints, its good! more

I wasn't sure that seeing Union Station was a great way to spend time in Kansas City, but since I was close, I decided to check it out. WOW.
