Half the fun is having the right guide. The little group I joined was in the expert hands of Wayne, who managed to explain things in the funniest way possible. This made it all worth while really, since I had been in much deeper caves. I did the regular tour, since I am not a big fan of any wars,... More

Over spring break, my family was looking for a unique attraction to visit. We saw a billboard for Smallin Civil war Cave on our way to Springfield, MO. This is a gem! It is family owned, and the tour guide gives you both background on the cave, its inhabitants, and civil war history. The day we visited, water was flowing... More

We showed up without tickets or reservations. Paid our ~ $25 for 2 at the gift shop and browsed the fossils and books for a few minutes until our tour left. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about geology and history. It was a cold and windy day - but very pleasant inside the cave. It is a walking tour... More

First I would like to say that Kevin and Wanetta were absolutely amazing with our kids. They were both very understanding, patient and warmhearted with both of them. ( Both our children are Autistic)) We went on 3 cave tours during our vacation and the tour of Smallin was by far the most enjoyable and friendly. The tour was funny... More

The Civil War Cave tour and dinner provided my family with a very educational and entertaining evening. We were also fortunate, only by chance to attend all of this on a full-moon night which provided even more beauty to the surroundings. I cannot imagine how or why anyone would complain about this dinner or tour. The owners are so informative,... More

We recently toured the Smallin Civil War Cave and were very impressed. The owner/guide, Kevin showed tremendous historical and geographical knowledge. The cave has outstanding, unique features that are fascinating to view. A definite must when you're in the area.

This past summer we toured Smallin cave for the first time and loved it. We came back last night for the Lantern Tour and it was even better. The ambiance of the lanterns and campfire add to the fun of the local history and legends told by the knowledgeable and friendly guides. The cave itself is magnificent and is a... More

This was our fifth time visiting Smallin Civil War Cave. Each time we've experienced enthusiastic and friendly cave guides who were very knowledgeable about caves. We loved seeing the fossils and cave critters as well as learning more about the history and folklore of the cave and the region. They continue adding new features which enhance the experience. It is... More

We went to the dinner tour that cost $30 per person. The dinner consisted of beans and boiled potatoes. You were encouraged to take one bottled drink and no more. No dessert. Nothing to write home about. We were very disappointed. These people are sweet, informative, and knowledgeable (mostly) about their cave and (very) about the history. That was interesting.... More

L Nunn, I am sorry you were disappointed in the meal. We are very upfront with our guests that the Civil War Dinner Tour is a meal of Ham and Beans, Cornbread, and Fried Potatoes which they are welcomed and encouraged to have as much as they wish. The meal that we have catered in from a carefully selected Southern... More
