I went on a Wednesday afternoon only to find a sign in the window stating it was "closed." No further information as to when it might be reopened. Disappointing since I drove a considerable distance to visit it based on "open year around" advertising. more
This cave is wonderful. It is full of many formations including helictites, soda straws, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, popcorn, cave bacon, and rimstone pools. The cave is privately owned and very interesting. The history and the formations in the cave are really cool. The cave is natural and very much alive and growing. Crystal Caves is an experience not to be missed if at all possible! Not only is the cave tour interesting, but the tour guides are an important part of the experience. Crystal Caves is only open limited hours - mostly in the morning and early afternoon. You would be well advised to call ahead. This is a two person operation... more
When we first arrived at Crystal Cave we thought about not staying, but we were already there. Good thing we did. It was a very beautiful cave and a great tour by the owner of the cave. more
All the billboards around Springfield tout Fantastic Caverns, but you'll have a much better cave experience at Crystal Cave. Crystal Cave is more interesting, you experience the cave more intimately, and the price is better. This is not a world-class cave, but for the Springfield, MO area this is the one to see.
