Every once in a while, you visit a place just expecting it to be average, but then when you get there, you find it is much, much better than you expected. We visited this museum recently. When in Carson City, this is a MUST SEE. It's undergoing construction (outside) -- but once inside we were in for a real treat. There's LOTS to see -- including a fossilized mammoth -- lots of exhibits showing life over a hundred years ago -- the display of silverware was incredible -- many "nooks and... more

I have visited this museum several times while staying in Lake Tahoe. For those interested in the local history or fascinated by the Old West. The building used to be the state mint, if memory serves. The museum has a series of displays presenting the process of money minting, fine silver wares, and mining.
