This is about as different from the strip as you can get. It's mountainous forest, with cool temps. A great escape, with trails and such to do. Don't look for a lot of attractions beyond hiking (except for snow skiing in the winter).

Mt Charleston is so different from the city that it is a must visit at least once for people coming to Las Vegas. The weather changes as well as your environment. Well worth the detour.

90 degrees in Vegas, 57 at Mt Charleston. Great getaway from 'The Strip'. Great scenery, Native Indian vendors, interesting historical facts. There was still snow on the higher elevations at the beginning of May.
