The shared, clean, 6 bunk cabins encouraged you to make new friends. So did the family style ham diner. Our hosts entertained us (dressed in drag) with songs and ghost stories. Our son,was one of several kids who earned their junior naturalist badge during a pancake breakfast ceremony while hopping on one foot. The hike from Lafayette Campground was alittle... more

For our day trip to Franconia Notch from Bethlehem, we decided to visit Flume Gorge and do the two and a bit hour round trip from Lafayette campground up to and around Lonesome Lake. It is a great walk, mainly though the forest until you reach the lake, which is good on a warm day since it keeps the sun... more

A relatively easy hike of a bout 1.5 miles to a lovely setting. The Hut "croo" is terrific and "Frederick" the bull moose has been making regular visits. The nature program for kids is outstanding. more

The White Mountains in general, and Franconia in particular ,is one of our favorite plances. Our family of 4 (2 adults + 7 & 9 year old boys) have spent part of our summer vacation there for the past 4 years. The area has so much to offer: great scenery, wildlife, hiking, other great outdoor activities, attractions. In August '07... more

The White Mountains certainly have a lot to offer, but I think if you can only do one thing here, Franconia Notch is the place to go. There is so much to do here. We started and finished our day at Cannon Mountain, taking the tramway to the top. We stopped at the Basin, which has a lovely (flat!) walking... more

Suggestion: Go here during a thunderstorm. The fact that it has soooooo many mountains and that it is in a valley means the sound of the thunder bounces from one mountain to the other, creating a giant echo effect that's really awesome. more
