It was very interesting, although it seems very one-sided in the way it presents things. Probably because it's run by descendants of Pat Garrett, so it is pretty one-sided. But I enjoy seeing all the historical items anyway.

We stopped at the museum on the way to see Billy the Kid's grave at Ft. Sumner, NM. Little did we know we would have to spend the night (at the Billy the Kid Motel) and go back the next day as there was so much to see. They claim there is over 60,000 relics and many are one of... More

An incredible array of western memorabilia with an emphasis on Billy the Kid. The owners are great, friendly people. Highly recommended.

We were somewhat surprised at the size and amount of information in this museum. It has been well maintained. We also drove down the road a couple of miles to the BTK gravesite.

We took a side-trip to Fort Sumner to see the Billy the Kid Museum on our way to Santa Fe. It was interesting and we learned a few things about the Kid that we didn’t know. There is one room that has the Billy the Kid related items – gun, etc. The rest of the museum is period artifacts -... More

I thought that this attraction was definitely worth the “Off-route” trip that we took to get to it. We were slated for E/B I-40 to Amarillo, but when I noticed that “Billy the Kidd Graveside & Museum” was only 45 minutes off the beaten path, I turned to explore the opportunity. Once we arrived it was literally in the middle... More

My husband and I wanted to "take in" this museum. However, with very hot temps, we didn't want to leave our small dogs in the car while we went thru the museum. When we shared our concern with the museum staff, they were very accommodating! We were allowed to carry our small dogs thru the museum while viewing lots of... More

If you get the chance to go to Fort Sumner, New Mexico, by all means stop in and visit with Don Sweet and his wife at the Billy the Kid Museum on Main Street (not to be confused with the museum down the street where Billy and friends are buried). Don is friendly as well as being a wealth of... More
