We have been here twice and enjoyed it both times. The museum has rotating exhibits as well as permanent ones. There is a large collection of horse-drawn wagons and buggies, guns, and other western memorabilia. An art show was in one gallery, and in another gallery were photos (including 3-D) of a cave not open to the public in Carlsbad... More

A rich laddy [Hubbard] bought an old skating rink then turned it into a museum by donating her collection of stage Coaches and other assorted pieces to it. I am not a big museum person, so you probably shouldn't pay any attention to me when I say this is not worth going out of your way for.

We saw something about this museum having something in common w/the Smithsonian, so decided to go while in the area. The museum was large & a lot of money has been spent here. I most enjoyed the photography exhibit, the history of the toilet, & the story of the lady who the museum was built to recognize. She was quite... More

Nice building and some rotating collections.  Have not gone in for a while.  Does not take a long time, but don't rush through too fast.

On our visit the Hubbard had an excellent traveling exhibit of clothes worn for a Mexican equine celebration. The items were well displayed and delightful as well as being informative about something of which I had zero knowledge. The permanent exhibit featured transportation items of the west: covered wagons, carriages, buggies, carts, etc. It was very interesting. There is also... More

Nice place with lots to see, but not sure worth the money. We scored with no one being in the museum when we went. There was a volunteer who came and guided us around and told us about all the items. That made it personal and a little more enjoyable. The photo collection was wonderful.

I arrived here last week with a group of friends and was very impressed by this museum. It is set back off the road (Highway 70), so you must turn into the driveway if you want to see it from the outside. You will notice several beautiful sculpted horses around the grounds. They are larger than life size and are... More

We were lucky in our timing because there was an excellent photography exhibit and an outstanding exhibit of southwestern/Mexican saddles, clothing, serapes, photos. I'm assuming these weren't permanent exhibits. The museum also has a room full of old carriages and wagons. There are wonderful sculptures with explanations of horses outside. It's conveniently located next to the visitor's center and the... More

This Museum is set back, almost out of sight, from Highway 70 in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico. Ruidoso Downs and the surrounding area are on Mescalero Apache lands and are known not only for tourist attractions such as casinos, but also for horseracing. It is appropriate to have a museum there dedicated to the American West, particularly to horses and... More

Visited here while staying a few days in Ruidoso. This is a very nice museum covering the American West. Exhibits are attractively arranged with a nice variety. There are wagons, carriages, sculptures, paintings, pottery, basketry, carvings, rugs, weaponry, household items, clothing; just to name a few of the items for view. The museum is just the right size to occupy... More
