My wife and I visit this beach each year while staying on Shelter Island. This requires a ferry trip and a congested (usually) ride through the Hamptons. However, it is well worth the bother for even just a few hours at the beach. The beach is immaculate, the showers and rest rooms are spotless and the folks who operate the...

Its a State Park on a Beach. Whats not to like? A lot of people camp here in the summer. I'm not telling you when the best time of year is, I'm a local...but walking on the beach and enjoying Montauk is always time well spent.
Escape the stress, take a beautiful beach walk ! The Long Island shoreline is one of my favorite spots for beautiful clean beaches !
The waiting liner for a reservation here is a long one, but one you should get on years in advance if necessary. This Park is special, right on the ocean, with wonderful amenities and near some great towns.

Beautiful sand, beautiful ocean, wonderful swimming and surfing.
My favorite beach on Long Island when I vacation from California.
I still love the Atlantic the best...it's my favorite ocean!
This was one of the few L.I. beaches that re-opened within a few days after Hurricane Irene.
Thank you Hither Hills, you saved this year's New York vacation.j

This park is amazing. The beach is just beautiful, a real hidden gem. The grounds are kept very clean. I'd recommend this place for a camping trip or even just a day trip. The drive is worth it. My kids enjoyed the playground and the softball field. The adults love having bathrooms and showers easily accessible.
Very nice beach. Also good playground, and a general store for the campers, where you can buy lots of stuff. We bought a kite for $4. My six year old daughter got it to go about a 100 feet up, which amazed some of the bathers. She's a good runner. :)
The amenities make it the place to go if...

When not staying within walking distance of the Ocean, this is a great life guarded location to swim at. Most people come and camp at this on the beack state park (must have advanced reservations for a camping spot).
