See AshwellGlasson's review here for an overview of the biodiversity, to which should be added that this park has one-third of South Africa's salt-marsh vegetation, and rare plain sand fynbos that grows on the dunes. DO NOT WALK ON IT. The Langebaan lagoon is superb, fringed with flamingo feathers. The Atlantic coast is magnificent, powerful, with pounding waves, foam and... More

Traditionally the West Coast National Park in South Africa has been focused on the ocean, fishing and a number of beach-based activities, which in my case is obviously fun, but as a hard core naturalist I prefer seeing areas on foot and by experiencing them with a good guide or local specialist. I mainly bird-watch when I walk and the... More

WCP is a favourite of ours and always worth the drive from Cape Town (stop for the classic pictures of Table Mountain on the way there and great sun-down shots on the return home). The park itself is fairly small but the draw is Langebaan lagoon which is breathtaking. If you enter from Langebaan it is worth visiting the water... More

We spent a lovely day in the National Park. The lagoon is a wonderful spot - great for swimming so don't forget your gear. The hides are very useful (but not always disabled friendly). We saw three tortoises and lots of other animals. The driving is easy and the views good.

A quiet ordinary national park surrounding an amazing beautiful blue lagoon flowing into the sea. Very good for watersports.

Outstanding birdwatching. And even if you don't care about birds the scenery will knock you out. Can't wait to go back.

Huge park with many lovely beaches (cold water) and excellent birding. Best spot was Geelbek with hides, trees & restaurant. Did not eat or stay here, but looked good.

West Coast National Park is a bird-lovers haven - there are a number of hides near the water and a variety of species can be spotted. During Flower Season - August - September the Park is ablaze with colour and is a must see. But it is still worth visiting at other times - the lagoon and beach past Churchhaven... More

We went to the West Coast National Park to see the flowers. As it was my first time going to the West Coast, I did not really know what to expect. When we arrived, it was flowers everywhere. If you think you are only there to see flowers, you are in for a suprise. We saw many tortoises, ostriches, small... More

We have visited this park a few times and this year decided to go through again for a drive in the park to see the flowers - we were not disappointed! The Postberg reserve which only opens during flower season was spectacular with fields and fields of brightly coloured flowers (white, orange, purple, yellow etc). We also saw a lot... More
