The views are absolutely magnificent. There is no entry fee which is great. You have to pay $8 for parking; but if you stay at the Watkins Glen State park, they can let you in at no cost. There are over 800 stairs to climb. Sometimes, there is a shuttle at the top which brings you down. Other-times, there is... More

There are a lot of stairs both up and down and some narrow passageways. The sun was warm and then the air by the water was cool. We parked in the South Rim parking lot, $8 to park, and walked down to the gorge. The best return route is to come back up from the gorge on the opposite side... More

When I went late in the day it was not busy, almost had the place to myself If you are feeling lazy take the bus to the top and walk downhill, but it's only 1100' over 1 1/2 miles so not a tough walk uphill

Super outdoor activity. Nature at it's finest! Alot of walking and steps, so wear your most comfortable shoes. Worth every step!

There are lots of steps and it's wet underfoot but you don't really notice because there are such amazing views all the way along the gorge. Agree with the advice to go early as it seems popular with coach tours - that said when we went there were loads of people only walking as far as the first falls and... More

Go early, before it gets mobbed. It is one of the loveliest places. You expect fairies and unicorns to be around the next bend. Good exercise too - over 800 steps for the main trail and it's wet, so wear good shoes.

My fiance and I arrived at Watkins Glen State Park at noon on a Saturday. It was actually the first full day of the gorge trail being open! For $8.00, we parked at the lower entrance, and hiked the mile and a half up the gorge trail. It was so increidbly gorgeous and impressive. For the first half-mile, I barely... More

We took the extended family to the gorge for some leaf peeping when the foliage was turning. We weren't disappointed! The colors were fabulous, and we had perfect fall weather. But -- it's a LOT of stairs. This is not a trek for anyone with fitness / mobility issues. Next time, we're taking my grandparents to the top by car... More
