I've always heard about the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and saw it in pictures as the grandest lighthouse in American and it for sure is awesome. Ok Ok Ok, I get the point. Lighthouses are beautiful. Take some pictures of it from the outside and you'll always remember it. But being charged $7 a piece just to walk up a lighthouse to see out into the ocean is not worth it. Just like the Arch in St. Louis, this is another waste of money attraction. Stand... more

This was a worthwhile attraction! It typifies the ocean-side experience. It was great to be able to walk to the top and enjoy the view from above. Nicely kept ground and availability of history too. Good photo opportunities more

I have seen several lighthouse, but this was the first one I was able to climb. It is an easy climb with fairly wide curving concrete streps. Husband and I had a great time climbing the Cape H lighthouse. You can also view the inside of the lighthouse keeper's/groundskeepers homes. There is a movie that tells about the historic relocation of the lighthouse also but call ahead for times and dates as they rotate different films. Drove down here from Nags Head - it was a great drive and the weather was nice. We climbed to the top and it was a HIKE, but well worth it. Great for a quick history lesson. more

We had a great day visiting the lighthouse in Hatteras. The drive down from Nags Head through the wildlife refuge was quick. The lighthouse itself is impressive and the Park Rangers were very knowledgeable. The day we went the temperature was approaching 90 and it is over 260 steps to the top. If you are on Hatteras Island you must stop a see the lighthouse, it's an amazing view from up there. BTW, The Island is not nearly as Touristy as Nags Head is.. Check out Hatteras Beach, it's very Close and was voted one of the best Beaches in the US. Remember, You have to be in Good Shape to climb... more
