Been here so many times, all seasons are beautiful here. Campsite is really nice, this place being so close to charlotte you can visit it any day. The trails are really nice.
I went on a Friday in October with my cousin and we had a wonderful time hiking. There were many trails to choose from, and the Nature Center provides you with a map. A few of the trails follow along Lake Wylie, with stunning views available. The trails we went on were not paved, but were easy to follow (the... More
We are at McDowell Nature Center all the time! They have wonderful cheap/free classes for all ages - be sure to check them out at www.parkandrec.com if you are planning a visit. Very cute, although small, nature center with several reptiles and amphibians. Great, well maintained trails and very friendly staff. Great lakefront area and a fun kids playground.
We discovered this nature center only 6 miles from our hotel and by lots of new stores and restaurants. You would never know it was close to everything. The nature center is open til 5 pm and has several reptiles on exhibit. Puppet stage and art for kids. Stop by for trail maps. Well maintained picnic tables, benches throughout the... More
While on a quick visit to Charlotte during vacation, we stopped to take a hike down to the lake. We were surprised to find picnic decks along the lake equipped with grills. Had we known about the great views and inviting picnic areas, I would have packed a lunch and stayed even longer!
A very nice place for waling, biking, fishing and etc. With a lake view and lots of trees. I like this place, and I go there every year. There are a lots of places for camping and grilling too.
If you want a tranquil escape from the sprawl and traffic of Charlotte, the McDowell Nature Center & Preserve should do the trick. This beautiful area is pretty easy to get to, just off of York Rd./S. Tryon St. (Rt. 49). The entrance is well marked, but you do have to look carefully in advance for it as you come... More
Wow. I cannot believe I have lived here 13 years and have missed this place! What a GEM! Our 3 boys (8,6,5) absolutely LOVE IT! Super nice campground, great fishing dock, beautiful park and superb nature center! We have already planned a camping trip there and bought fishing poles so we are ready for more fishing!
They have a beautiful nature center with incredibly friendly staff. Hiking trails are gorgeous! Really nice picnic areas and shelters, a playground for kids, and a nice and inexpensive campground. McDowell also offers tons of low cost-no cost family programming year round. I take my summer campers here as well as my family often.
