The weathter was beautiful, the traffic was light, what else could you ask for? Travel here before the summer rush. You'll enjoy it.

I understand why the locals hate the Park Service, they kill animals on this island to protect bird eggs! Horrible !
There are lighthouses, miles of kite surfers, the house in Rodanthe and fun ferry rides.
We were staying in Corolla and decided to travel south to climb the lighthouse. When we got there, we saw a VERY long line, and in 95 degree heat, I didn't feel like waiting. And wait we did! Almost 2 hours. But when we finally were able to climb it, we had a blast and the view at the top...

Stayed in a beach rental house on the sound side for a week in Buxton. Awesome location to see all the sights and much to do at the Light House. Easy access for disabled great biking and hiking. Great location to stay to visit Ocracoke Island and enjoy all the acitivites on OBX.
How great to drive right up to the shore line on the ocean and have all your stuff on the beach with you! Also great to have privacy and not have other people right on top of you! Spent the whole day on the beach and there is a museum just across the road which gave us a nice break...

Amazing beaches and love to take my truck offroad. Didn't like the new fees to drive on the beach but paid anyway. So many miles of beach in OBX, hard to choose where to go, so just go. Nice sea shell hunting in some locations and a few shipwrecks to see first hand.
We went over on the ferry to Okracoke Island for a few days and it was the best vacation I ever had! This far.
We went to Teach's Hole where Blackbeard the pirate supposedly died. The sand on the beach is almost pure white covered with a blanket of seashells. My son had a blast collecting tons of seashells. Okracoke...

Our family enjoyed walking up into the lighthouse and the beautiful view from the top! The museum is very informative and well maintained. There is a fee for going up into the lighthouse but you can meander through the museum and the park for free. My son enjoyed skateboarding in the empty parking lot after the museum closed and people...

Cape Hatteras National Seashore covers a large area that encompasses the Bodie Island Lighthouse, the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and the coastal towns of Hatteras Island. If someone has only a few days to spend on the North Carolina coast, I recommend this area due to the variety of sites within the national seashore and...
