We were excited to be standing on the very hill where the Wright Brothers stood.... The view was amazing. Overall though, I have been to much better museums, etc. I think they could really use a great "public history" person in there to revitalize the exhibits. To make it more tactile- more interesting to children. As it is, its a... more
very interesting presentation, a lot of information on the Wright Brothers and history. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a lot of walking required and it was hot when we went. We drove our car right to the base of the monument though and that helped a bit. They give the kids kites made out of garbage bags and there... more
Every right thinking American (and Earthling) should visit this place. This is where flight, er, took flight. There 5 basic things to see here. 1. The Wright Brothers Memorial. It's a large monument on top of a former sand dune (covered with grass to keep it stable). The tip is to park at the Memorial so you won't have to... more
I was thinking of last years' summer vacation I took with our family, three kids ages 5/7/9, and was remembering the Wright Bros Memorial and felt the need to post a review. I think that more could be made of this museum and its exhibits. It is such an important part of world history never mind American history. If it weren't for the shear importance of the site, I don't know if I would highly recommend it to others. I absolutely love history, so to be in one of the spots where one of the most important milestones in the 20th took place was in itself a reward for visiting the memorial. Sadly though, it just didn't seem... more

Just a tremendous day to be had here as you revel in the history of the very ground you are standing on. I agree that this is more for adults than kids. Hard to believe it, but they can't quite grasp the concept of difficulty of flight. Great stop in you OBX Vacation. more
If your looking for somewhere to go to let your kids have fun, this might not be it. Unless they love history and education, this is more of an adult place. I really enjoyed the experience and learned quite a few tidbits that I never knew about the first flight. more
