Have those sneakers on and be ready to walk some trails! This place is hidden away from the beach and is very wooded and shaded. So if its hot, this is an escape from the blazing sun. There are plenty of bugs and insects so be ready, maybe a snake or two along the way (we didn't see any though).... more
A great get away and a chance to see some of the local ecosystems. Come for a hike in the maritime forest, marsh, or dunes. Self guided and lots of wildlife to see. Be sure to come between 9-2 to have someone in the office answer your questions. more
Thanks to The Nature Conservancy, this wonderful section of maritime forest has been preserved for all to enjoy! The trails throughout the preserve are an easy hike (they are mostly level, so more like a stroll) and are blanketed with pine needles. We visited yesterday, and then went back again today. This is a wildlife paradise. Tons of interesting looking plants, birds, turtles, snakes, and other wildlife. You definitely must wear long pants and have insect repellent, as there are some mosquitos, but in terms of a secluded, primitive nature place, where you feel like you stepped back in time, this is absolutely great.
