Our first visit to the Outer Banks, it was too windy to walk up the impressive dunes. Our second trip, the weather was calmer & walking up the largest sand dunes on the east coast was definitely my favorite part of the trip. There is a small museum at the entrance to the park. Then, there is a boardwalk path... More

Jockey's Ridge is a must do while in the outer banks. It is a bit of walking, but great views and good free family fun. Bring a camera!

This was somewhat of a surprise to me as I read the reviews and thought I might just run through and move on to another more exciting attraction, howeverJRSP was very nice. The dunes are large and noticable from the road. I also enjoyed watching the hang glider school. I managed to walk to the top dune for the view... More

Took a hang gliding lesson with Kitty Hawk Kites. It was fun! We didn't get to do as much as they normally do because it was too windy. They said I could come back the next day for no charge, but I was leaving. So if you do this, pick a day early in your trip.

The dunes are awesome, and the interpretative center does a wonderful job of explaining everything - how these dunes compare to others in the U.S., the wildlife in the park, how dunes form, etc.

Lots of hiking around the dunes - majestic views of the surf and the sound! Not a lot of activity in the evening (6pm), but nice long hours to catch this point of interest early in the day or into the evening. Hang-gliding and sand surfing are a couple of the fun activities here. Bring your own kite!

We took our dog to the dunes @ jockey ridge and he loved it! We all got out of breath a couple of times going up and down the dunes but was well worth it to see the view. The largest dunes on the east coast I was told. Make sure you take a bottle of water with you, and... More

It was funny to see everyone enjoying the windy sunday. You see a lot of kites and it's funny to walk around these huge sand dunes.
