Since 1992, the exhibit and its pirate specialty shop have been a favorite destination for families visiting Ocracoke Island. The exhibit features a life-like recreation of Blackbeard, a weapons display, old bottles, original art, a pirate flag display, ship models, and interactive activities. PRO: one tastefully executed gun and sword panel - clearly constructed by an adult. CONS: 95% of the closet-sized museum was filled with elementary, child-like historical exhibits. One can learn about Ocracoke's history (including pirate history) in every other shop around - from the bookstore, to the coffee shop, kayaking trips, etc. Rude staff ... of all the places on... more

When ever we go to Ocracoke my kids all beg to go to Teach's Hole. (Several times if we stay the whole week!). It is a great shop for all things pirate. You can get an inexpensive souvenir and great toys for the kids. The museum is fun and informative. And we got a discount on their T shirts when... more

This is the only thing not worth doing in the Outer Banks. Great gift shop. The museum is about 12 feet long. Useless and boring. A waste of money. Your kids will be happy to return to the gift shop. more

My family and I visited the Outer Banks Easter week, 2008. While there we took a ferry ride over to Ocracoke and visited the Blackbeard Exhibit. This is an excellent exhibit detailing the history of Blackbeard. In addition to beautiful artwork, there is a life size Blackbeard who looks likes a real person with piercing blue eyes!!!
