Went to the holiday open house in December. Surprised that there were so few folks there, but it was a great program. The docents are very knowledgeable and the home itself was beautiful. Want to go back in the spring to see the gardens.

Went to the holiday open house in December. Surprised that there were so few folks there, but it was a great program. The docents are very knowledgeable and the home itself was beautiful. Want to go back in the spring to see the gardens.
Although this house only rated a brief mention in Frommers, we decided to pay it a visit and we're really glad that we did. Our guide, Al was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable. The house is very nicely restored and the grounds are still attractive in spite of the time of the year.
The house and gardens are simply beautiful. It keeps to the period very well and the tour guide was quite knowledgable and friendly. Who ever keeps this house "up to snuff" is doing a fantastic job. I would recommend this site to everyone.
While this was in no way a house like those of Newport Rhode Island, however with that said, it doesn't have to be. The rooms are not decked out and overly decorated, but simple making it easier to pay attention to the tour guide. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable to the house and the time period.
