I was surprised that there were so many tropical birds here. Most were injured animals and are being nursed back to health. Some of them are well trained. I found many of the birds were tame and could be handled. There is no admission fee but they ask for a donation for the care of the birds.

My first and last impressions were the worst. The thrift store at the entrance is an absolute eyesore run by people with an alcohol problem. When you get to the actual parrot refuge things light up. The birds seem well cared for, they have a lot of space and staff is friendly. They are busier with the animals than with... More

The amount of work these people do to rescue and save parrots in phenomenal. And almost all the work is done by volunteers. It's very loud in there (as you can imagine) but they do provide earplugs. They also have a thrift store open there now that helps bring in money for the refuge but I know they need a... More

I am not an owner of birds and I don't believe people should own them as pets but luckily this refuge is there to look after these birds after they are abused, neglected, abandoned or the owners pass away. Considering the amount of birds that are housed in the building they do a really good job of keeping it clean... More

This parrot refuge feeds and shelters parrots and other birds that owners can no longer keep. It is an opportunity to visit with the parrots in a pleasant environment and learn more about why exotic birds should not be considered as pets. Many come from locations that were the only place in the world providing the right food for them... More

My children were amazed by the sheer variety of birds, and the work being done to give these birds a home -- where they are fed, nurtured, and respected -- is admirable. I'd love more information and it would've been great to speak with someone about the birds and their stories, but all the volunteers looked so busy and focused... More

All the other reviews I read, positive or negative, offer good insights into the facility. Don't go there expecting a "tourist" facility with guides and tours trick-birds and so on. This is a working facility that offers ongoing rescue and care for parrots. It would be great if they had a huge budget and could expand, hire more staff, offer... More

World Parrot Refuge is a refuge - not a petting zoo, circus, etc. These are wild animals who have been captured or bred into captivity and then abandoned by their owners because they are not meant to be kept as pets. Parrots are extremely intelligent flock animals who are built to FLY miles each week, not be kept in a... More

The idea is great and what a wonderful attraction the owner has included with parrots "painting" art for tourists. But i really saw a need for more. Something more is needed, whether it is more education, more breeds, more awareness or more species of other animals. I suggest that Butterfly world and Parrot Refuge join forces and then the prices... More

Wonderful providers for these very smart and beautiful birds that have been abandoned/neglected by people who did not realize what was required to provide for these animals. Need public's awareness and financial help.
