You have to consult the tide-table, easily found on the Internet, and visit Skookumchuck when the ebb is at its height. You can walk out on the rock which forms the narrows until you're standing right next to a tiderace going by at about 30 kmh. The centre of the flow bows up into the air to a height of... More

A nice 60 minute walk in, beautiful park. Get to the narrows at the highest tide for the best experience.

About 3 km one way through the rainforest. Neat to see the whirlpools and feeding birds. But be prepared for the hike. There's a nice new museum near the trailhead - but it is often closed.

Skookumchuck means “strong or turbulent waters" and this is exactly what you'll find here. Check the local tide tables to plan your arrival when tidal flows are at their peak. Remember to factor in 45 minutes of walking from the parking lot.

not easy to get to, but if you are a white water kayaker it is a mecca, if you hit the tides right for the standing wave. inquire at vancouver or squamish kayak shops first if you are unsure when to go
