The Boat Museum provides the scene for a lovely day out. It's educational and fun - for adults and children alike. The word 'museum' may lead you to believe that this is an indoor experience looking at engines and reading lots about days gone by .. that certainly is part of it and will be of interest to many people... Visited on a rather wet weekday. Entrance price very reasonable. By definition, many exhibits are outdoors, so didn't spend too much time with them. The indoor exhibitions were very technical, with lots of information. We found them rather sad though, perhaps befitting an industry long gone. Worth preserving, I'm sure, but not tremendous fun!

I visited the museum yesterday with my 4 yr old granddaughter and we had a lovely afternoon.I was concerned that she might not be old enough to enjoy it but there was plenty for her to see and do.Particular highlights were the trip on a canal boat, exploring the living quarters of 2 boats, complete with a few pots, pans... When visited the Boat museum was in dire straits being held together by a very small team. I hope things have improved.

A great setting for a walk back into the history of British canals, with plenty to see and staff on hand to give advice. Set in a large basin with working locks and a good collection of narrowboats and barges A great day out

Me and my wife visited the Boat Museum over the weekend and we found it very interesting. The entry fee is only £6 and we spent a couple of hours looking around. There is a fair few boats on display and there is an indoor display as well. Altogether an enjoyable day out.

Well it’s a bit rich blaming a museum for being situated where it is! Perhaps jim75 would like the canal moving a bit nearer the bus station or maybe nearer their house? I know the area but if I was travelling anywhere by public transport I would check how to get their, maybe ring the museum or use the Net.... More
