Marple is my home town - but this is a lovely walk regardless, with pubs along the route, its a great place to wander on a summer day - or a colder one, come to that.
A walk through history. The canal features a great series of locks. The second largest in England.
16 locks in very close succession, worth a visit by boat or by foot.
Did some geocaching (geocaching.com) around the locks area and spent some time pondering the haunts of my youth! We enjoyed a reasonably priced meal at the Navigation Inn which is by the locks.
Worth going down past the bottom lock to see the aquaduct
I grew up around here and have happy memories of roaming around the canal towpaths and helping canal boats through the locks. I often go back for family walks - lovely scenery, very relaxing and plenty of stopping off places.
Nowhere nicer, especially in spring and summer. Busy yet peaceful.
Canals aren't always lovely places. Marple Canal is an oasis on the outskirts of Stockport. There are a number of locks in a short run with stunning views. My personal favourite memories of this canal have been sunny cycling days, watching the ducklings. Happy days.
A excellent place to escape any day. Beautiful views and walks.
