I don't do historic houses but 1 of our party of 3 was visiting from Oz so it was his choice. I was surprised how lovely a place it is. Decent grounds. The World Owl Trust HQ with interesting exhibits including a couple of live webcam views of the nesting babies. The display of owls flying about on the castle... More

Muncaster is beautiful in any season, but just wonderful in Spring when everything is blooming, it is outstanding. The bird sanctuary is a good reason to go at any time of the year.

If you are in the area, this is a 'must do'! we started by walking through the bluebells, took in the vole maze, which is designed for those more than fifty years younger than us, but was still fun!, walked around the outside of the castle, looked briefly at the owls, used the entirely acceptable ladies and gents, were tempted... I've visited Muncaster a few times now and each visit has been new and interesting. This time we went for the bluebells and the start of the Rhododendrons. It was stunning too! We had a wonderful walk through the himalayan woodland and off into the castle gardens, down through dells and over babbling brooks. There is so much to see... More

We spent the day at Muncaster Castle and it was well worth the trip. The gardens are great with a multitude of flowers and shrubs full of bloom. The castle is worth the walk around, and the views of the fells from the castle are great. The cafe is very handy with a good selections of hot foods and drinks.... More

Great location near Wasdale for fell walking. The accommodation was clean and modern to a high standard. Large lounge area and separate kitchen area to use if needed. Would be very good for groups. We just did B & B. Breakfast was the best this week, served in the old stable block which has retained its old stalls and mangers... More

This is becoming an annual pilgrimage for us! We've been at other times too, but Festival of Fools is full of fun and really spectacular. It's worth every penny as you can stay all day, see the beautiful owls, enjoy the bouncy castle and play on various stalls (well I didn't but the kids did!), eat good food in the... More
