My partner took my here for as part of my birthday treat - I was frankly expecting it to be sub-standard but boy - was I wrong! The walk has its peaks and troughs, hilly parts and some lovely views. I would recommend buying a map from the little snack trailer at the start - its 50p and points out... More

Extremely busy because it was a lovely sunny day. Visit on a weekday when it's quieter & take a picnic. Arrive early so you can park on the road & not pay for parking.

We stayed at the dog and duck hotel a few miles away at Swineshead but there are loads of places to stay around here. Some of the most stunning scenery in the UK and easily drivable from everywhere. I now live in Northamptonshire and it take us about 1.5 hours to get there. Dovedale is the beginning of the more... More

But don't park at Thorpe. Instead, drive up the A515 and take the road to Milldale - parking is free and it is less crowded. The walk along Dovedale is stunning - and if you want to get away from other people, just take one of the waymarked walks away from the river and within 100 yards you will experience... More

A gorgeous place with outstanding scenery. One of the best places I've ever been to for a walk. And the stepping stones are brilliant.

Gets very busy in the summer, but is still a good walk by the river Dove! From the car park, the going is mainly on paths, but the further away you get, there are some rocky stretches, so walking boots are best. Take a picnic, get snacks from the shop in the car park, or eat at the Isaac Walton... More
