This is a great day out but anyone should be aware that it RAINS in a rain forest! We had brilliant weather and took many splendid photos. Tip # 1. Start at Cairns main station. You get to pick your seats and see a bit more of the town's history. Tip # 2. Listen to the commentary. Its interesting. Tip... more

After reading all the reviews I put this down as a must whilst I was in the area in mid-October. The train journey itself was relaxing and took in some good views. Wrong time of the yr for Barron Falls but still I can imagine it would be grand in the wet season. Overall I just didnt feel it was... more

We booked our trip with Down Under tours who were very good, pick up from the hotel and everything well explained. The rail trip was disappointing as trees obscure your view for most of the way. Kuranda itself is far too commercial and is nothing special. The trip on the skyrail back down is excellent and well worth doing. Tjapukai... more

We took the train up to Kuranda, and the skyrail back down. Kuranda itself is really just a tourist shopping center. MANY MANY tourist shops. In fact, at the end of our ten day trip, we wished we could have gone back to Kuranda just to buy the trinkets we had missed (souvenir stuff to give to family members to... more

This is a great half day activity but I wouldn't recommend spending any more time than that in Kuranda. The village itself is rather small and is just loaded with touristy retail shops. There is a koala and bird reserve, but other than that there really isn't much else to do. The big things are the train ride up and... more

My partner and I did a day trip to Kuranda. We took the scenic train up to Kuranda which was great! The sites through the mountains are fantastic Postcard-like photo oportunities all the way up to Kuranda. Once we arrive in Kuranda there were free shuttle buses waiting to take you to the heart of the town (2min drive) The... more

Travelling twice a day between Cairns and Kuranda the Kuranda Scenic Railway is a wonderful expereince for people of all ages. The train line was highly influential in the early settlement stages and development of Cairns as a major Far North city. The railway construction is amazing with many tunnels and bridges and steep rock faces. The scenery is spectacular... more

Travel the Kuranda Scenic Rail, leaving from Freshwater Station to the top of the tableland. The trip meanders up the mountain through tropical forest and hand hewn tunnels. the views are amazing. Once up on top, you will arrive at the little village of Kuranda. There are plenty of activities that you can link up with from here. We were... more

Of all the activities we did in Australia, the Kuranda Scenic Railway up to the city of Kuranda, and the Scenic Cableway over the canopies back down was by far and away my favorite activity in Queensland. (The Great Barrier Reef would have been a favorite were it not for the deadly marine stingers - NOTE: DO NOT VISIT THE... more

We did the skyrail/rainforestation/railway package and we both agreed that it was disappointing and overpriced. THE GOOD: The train itself is a lovely old fashioned steam train, full of nostalgia. The Gold Class carriage had been renovated and was quite tastefully done, with dark wood and free stadning arm chairs. However, the chairs were quite upright and tipped forward if... more
