Berkeley Castle is so unlike many National Trust properties which are stocked with furniture and works of art that have nothing to do with the house and seem sterile even if beautiful. Everything here has been acquired by members of the family over the centuries and there's a story behind everything. That Stubbs didn't come from the National Trust vaults,... More

A very enjoyable few hours spent in the castle with an informative guided tour. If you have an interest in English histroy you will find it rewarding, and not just because of the Edward II murder legend. There are relics from ancient battles, Francis Drake's Sea Chest and tent lining from the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520,... More

We visited Berkeley Castle this weekend and had an afternoon out with a difference. Berkeley is a Norman castlebut has lots of different furnishings throughout the ages, including a cypress chest purportedly from Sir Francis Drake's cabin. Because it is still a family home photographs are not permitted inside, but as you can see photos can be taken outside etc.... More

I don't normally like historic houses as I find them a bit stuffy. This one is the exception to that rule. With it's chequered history, some of it extremely gory, Beautiful grounds

It is old and full of history. Well worth a visit and a guided tour. Also viisit the 13 century church and the Jenner Museum. Berkeley flowers is a great friendly shop if you need a button hole flower or flowers for your wedding. So friendly and helpful.

On entrance to the fairly small car park the castle iteslf isn't actually visable. In fact you don't see any of the castle itself until you have paid what seems to be quite a high entrance price and walked past the local churchyard along a path and then you are suddenly greeted by an extremely impressive castle. You later find... More

You can come into Berkeley village from the direction of Gloucester or Bristol, and either way you just get on the A38 and head towards Dursley, As you drive into Berkeley, the castle entrance is on the left and normally there is ample parking. The castle grounds are amazing and at the front you can walk around the walls and... More

Berkeley Castle was not really on our radar (we were mainly in the vicinity in order to visit Slimbridge) - but it was a very interesting place to visit. Our (Scottish) guide was excellent and told us lots of anecdotes which made the place come alive. Only complaint: not allowed to take photographs inside.
